Can a font be racist? The case of Chop Suey

Every graphic designer in their career had to work almost once on something related to another culture: it could be a logo for a restaurant, a packaging for a product, a brochure for a travel destination.
Have they ever wondered if their graphic works convey sterotypes or, at worst, racism?
That’s the case of Chop Suey Font: its detractors says the ubiquitous use in eastern related products communicate a fictional idea of China and other eastern countries.
