Kenya has mobile health app fever
Few days ago I wrote about one important tech trend in 2012: DIY Healthcare.
Actually it appears Kenya is already in 2012: a new app called MedAfrica had more than 25.000 downloads since the launch in November, and 60 percent are “active users”. MedAfrica is an app styled like one of the many you can download from App Store, with the same business model based on advertising.

It lacks the coolness of Android and iPhone apps, but Safaricom’s M-PESA Mobile Money Transfer is really changing lives of thousands of people in Africa.

"Africa’s current Internet trends should make any smart investor or entrepreneur pay close attention. Sites like Facebook have witnessed explosive growth on the continent in the past few years and in fact, Africa is currently the social network’s fastest growing continent. […]
There are also local success stories such as South African social network, MXit which currently has more than two times the number of Facebook users in South Africa. And of course, there is tremendous opportunity in Africa’s mobile space. Earlier this year, we reported that the continent exceeded Western Europe in mobile connections by amassing over 547 million connections."
